Fitness Myth Busters

False

This would be the same as thinking you need to know how to cook before hiring a chef to teach you.

Personal trainers are equiped to help you no matter where you are at in your fitness journey. In fact, the first thing that you'll do when you find your personal trainer is take an assessment to help your personal trainer understand your background, experience, physical limitations (if any), and your overall fitness goals.

Only if you do it wrong - Only kidding!

While some trainers may push you out of your comfort zone, most are supportive, encouraging, and adapt their style to your preferences. They're more "cheerleader" than "army general."

this depends!

For the most part quality beats quantity! Even short, focused workouts can deliver results when done consistently and aligned to a plan designed for your goals and your body.

However, if you are on a path to "getting the gains" and putting on a lot of muscle (a.k.a. bulking), then you may find yourself in the gym just about every day.

Nope!

Trainers work with clients of all ages, abilities, and fitness levels. Their goal is to help you feel healthier and stronger, no matter what that means for you and your goals.

Not quite right!

Balance is the name of the game! A good trainer will help you make sustainable changes that include room for the foods you love (yes, even pizza!). The key to success will be tracking your macros (the combination of fats, carbohydrates, and protein) to ensure that you're getting enough food energy needed to support your fitness goals.

Not in all cases

Yes, some trainers can be pricey. But many trainers offer flexible options like small group sessions or online plans. Plus, investing in your health now can save you on healthcare costs later.

Not at all!

“No pain, no gain” is outdated and doesn't apply to everyone. Soreness isn't the only sign of progress. Feeling stronger, moving better, and improving endurance are the real indicators. As with most myths, there is a bit of truth to this if you are looking to really train hard for some kind of an event (e.g. a competition, muscle building) where you will have some soarness.

this is a little exteme

A good trainer listens to you and finds exercises that you enjoy (or at least tolerate!). They’ll help you discover activities that align with your goals and preferences.

Getting started doesn’t have to be intimidating. Breaking down these myths can help you feel ready to take that first step toward a healthier, stronger you!
